Dr. Keith Talley received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Saxophone Performance from Michigan State University. He holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Missouri Southern State University. He has studied primarily with Charles Thelen, Timothy Timmons, Bobby Watson, and Joseph Lulloff. He was featured as a soloist in the U.S. premiere of Bobby Watson's jazz suite Afroisms. He has recently appeared with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed and presented at NASA and Percussion Pedagogy conferences as a soloist, lecturer and member of a chamber ensemble.
Dr. Talley is the soprano chair and founding member of the Chisholm Saxophone Quartet based in Oklahoma. He is also a member of the Bessinger-Talley Percussion and Saxophone Duo along with his colleague Dr. David Bessinger. Both chamber groups have premiered new works at concerts and recitals throughout the United States.
Dr. Talley is currently the Ed and Winnie Ola Berrong Endowed Chair and Associate Professor of Saxophone of the Department of Music at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. In his time at SWOSU as Director of Jazz Studies, he has presented concerts with jazz legends: Bill Watrous, The Clayton Brothers Quintet, Bobby Watson, and Randy Brecker among others. Dr. Talley is President-Elect of the Oklahoma Jazz Educators Association Dr. Talley is also the Director of SWOSU’s Summer Music Camp program that brings nearly 1000 students and over 100 faculty and staff to Weatherford, OK every summer. Dr. Talley previously taught at Hope College in Holland, MI before joining the faculty at SWOSU in 2006 and he has recently taught at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK.
